Narcissism is a pathological obsession with oneself at the exclusion of others. Narcissist’s own importance is paramount in their own eyes and everything they do is about their popularity, attainment, obtainment and advantage.
Narcissists largely are not aware of their level of dysfunctional self-love. However, those around them see and feel the effects of lives lived in a service to self alone.
Social media to a large extent has provided a forum for self-centred expression and display. We live in a society where Selfies dominate our photo portfolio, rather than that of our families, cherished friends and beautiful things and places. I wonder if this is the real pandemic that threatens our society. The Epidemic of Self at the expense of others.
Love on the other hand is the principle of putting others first in our lives. How little do we see of this today. Maybe it is because Love is a Gift from God. Maybe this is the great sign of the times. It is no wonder the good book states that: Know this for sure, that in the Last Days Precarious times shall come. For men shall be lovers of themselves, boasters, proud, unthankful and focused on their own identity… without natural affection, but considering themselves great…2 Tim 3:1-4
Unfortunately, this pandemic is not cured by Inoculation…
